• Bank robber steals $1450 from Brownsville bank


    A man escaped with $1,450 in cash from the first South Bank branch in Brownsville, Tenn., Friday morning.

    The bank heist took place at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 28, on West Main Street.

    The suspect entered the bank and demanded money from the teller. The teller complied after the suspect indicated that he was armed. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, with dark hair, between 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-11 in height, of medium to small build and wearing a green shirt with darker green sleeves, black cargo shorts, dark shoes and white socks.

    The robbery suspect, who was identified by Brownsville Police as 48-year-old Jeffrey Traywick of Jackson, Tenn., ran to a nearby convenience store and escaped in a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck with temporary tags and traveled south on Wilson Avenue, Brownsville Police said.

    Traywick is considered armed and dangerous. If you see Traywick or his vehicle you are urged to call the Brownsville Police Department or Brownsville Crime Stoppers at 731-772-CASH  (2274).

    Brownsville, located in Haywood County, is about 60 miles northeast of Memphis.
