• Baxendale Finalist for Premier Player Award


    University of Arkansas junior right-handed pitcher DJ Baxendale is one of five finalists for the 2012 Premier Player of College Baseball Award it was announced on Tuesday.

    Baxendale, a Jacksonville, Ark., native, has made 17 starts this season and has a 7-4 record and 2.83 earned run average over 92.1 innings of work. He received a no decision in his most recent start against Sam Houston State in the NCAA Houston Regional, but looked solid through six innings, allowing four unearned runs on six hits while striking out six. On the year, Baxendale has a team-leading 85 strikeouts to just 22 walks and opponents are hitting just .237 against him.

    Over his three-year Arkansas career, Baxendale has made 65 appearances, the seventh most in school history and has a 17-8 record with 10 saves. His 2.57 ERA is the sixth lowest by an Arkansas pitcher and his 10 saves are tied for eighth all-time.

    The Razorbacks continue their journey in the NCAA Tournament on Friday when they play game one of the NCAA Waco Super Regional. Baxendale is scheduled to make the start in game one of the Super Regional.
