Fatal fire at Wingood Apartments

Two men are dead after an early, Saturday morning fire at the Wingood Manor Apartments. The names of the victims have not been released. They were transported to Delta Medical Center in critical condition where they later died. The cause of death is still under investigation.  
 
Investigators also say the Red Cross was notified that 9 adults and 2 children who live at Wingood Manor need assistance as a result of the fire. Memphis Fire Investigators report the cause of the fire was unattended food left cooking on the stove in the kitchen.
 
The Memphis Fire Department urges all citizens to keep a working smoke detector in their home. Any City of Memphis resident can apply for a free smoke detector by contacting the Fire Museum of Memphis at 901-636-5650.
