Governor Haslam speaks on accidental gun deaths in Tennessee

Updated:
FOX13 asked Governor Bill Haslam why the number of accidental accidental gun deaths in Tennessee is so high.

Those numbers show an increase of over five fold in the number of deaths from 2013 to 2014.

Governor Haslam has long been a supporter of the second amendment.

Here is what he had to say about numbers. "Obviously, we are state that believes strongly in second amendment rights, but we also need to be willing to do our homework on gun safety, and I think those two things go hand-in-hand. Again, as a state we're gonna be talking about that," governor haslam said.

Haslam has supported a variety of controversial gun bills over the years, including guns in parks.

He also let  a bill allowing guns on campuses to become law without signing it himself.
