In the video posted above, take notice the young actor with the gun chasing the lead in the opening number.

The Memphis theater scene helped sharpen Ben Laxton's skills and propel him to a role in this Broadway tour.

Laxton was one of thousands who auditioned at the Unified Professional Theatre Auditions that are held here in Memphis at Playhouse on the Square.

"I came to Memphis to work specifically at Playhouse on the Square," he said. "When I came here it was so lively. There were so many things going on. So many theaters it was exciting."

Laxton put in the effort during the nine months he called Midtown home and won local awards for best and supporting actor.

New York called and the 24-year-old is now in the cast of "Catch Me if you Can," in Memphis through Oct. 21 at The Orpheum Theatre.

"I actually saw the show on Broadway," he said. "I want to be in that show."

Laxton plays an FBI investigator and is the understudy to the lead.

There are five performances scheduled Friday-Sunday for "Catch Me If You Can."
