A man is being treated for third-degree burns after part of a duplex house exploded Thursday evening in the 2400 block of Brooklyn in the Orange Mound neighborhood of Memphis, fire spokesman Lt. Wayne Cooke said.
"The west and north side of the house was completely blown off," Lt. Cooke said.
Two people were injured in the duplex house explosion. A woman who lives in the other part of the duplex suffered a cut on her leg.
A witness said he saw a man on fire running away from the house as it exploded.
Lt. Cooke said the man is in critical condition at The MED's burn unit. The burn victim has third-degree burns over 40-percent of his body.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. MLGW and Memphis Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the house explosion.
