    Whitehaven High School Wins State Championship

    The Whitehaven High School football team defeated Maryville High School 36 to 35 in overtime to capture the 2012 TSSAA Class 6A State Championship. Whitehaven was defeated by Maryville in the 2011 State Championship. Senior running back Mark Dodson was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player after rushing for 318 yards and five touchdowns. Under the guidance of head Coach Rodney Saulsberry, the Tigers finished their season undefeated with a record of 15 – 0.

    Kate Bond Elementary Joins in the Fight Against Cancer

    On Monday, November 19, 2012, the students and faculty of Kate Bond Elementary School participated in a Walk-A-Thon fundraiser to support the ongoing research at St. Jude Hospital and Research Facility.  The event was coordinated in honor and support of first grade student, Denis Aguillon, who is currently receiving treatment from St. Jude for Leukemia.  Her recent diagnosis was terrible news, but the Kate Bond Family decided to do something about it.  Students and staff were able to raise over $11, 268.29 with the help of the community.   

    A.B. Hill Elementary to Host "Kids & Community Read Day"

    A.B. Hill Elementary School will host its eighth annual "Kids & Community Read Day". This literacy program is designed to inspire, motivate and promote the love of reading among young learners. Community groups and individuals are invited and asked to bring a new book to read to Pre-K or Kindergarten students. The book will then be presented to the child as a gift. "Kids & Community Read Day" takes place at A.B. Hill Elementary on Thursday, December 6 at 9:30 a.m.

    MCS to Host Annual Mid-South Tech Conference

    Memphis City Schools is pleased to announce the 2012 Mid-South Technology Conference, December 6-7, 2012 at the Cook Convention Center. Conference participants  will connect with educational and information technology professionals in sharing new tools, techniques, products and strategies for integrating technology to enhance academics and operations in school districts.  Participants will also engage in demonstrations and interactive sessions pertaining to rich digital media, Web 2.0 tools and effective technology integration. In addition, technology vendors will demonstrate innovative technologies and cutting edge technology integration techniques in the exhibit halls. Held in the city where Blues was born, celebrate the rich music history of Memphis, while learning successful strategies to transform your district's technology interface.

    Alcy Elementary School Students to "Read Around the Christmas Tree"

    On Friday, December 7 at 9 a.m., Alcy Elementary School' will host "Read Around the Christmas Tree." Parents and community members are invited to celebrate and read with students. Each guest is asked to bring a children's book to read to a child. At the end of the event' the book will be presented to the child as a gift.
