After an almost nine hour surgery Wednesday, 2-year-old Brooklyn’s liver transplant is a success.

The Faris family received the call Tuesday afternoon there was a liver available for their daughter, and they had 24 hours to do the surgery. A blizzard in Chicago canceled flights left and right, and the family did not know how they would get to the hospital in time. FedEx stepped in to fly the family, and they got to the hospital by 10 p.m. Tuesday.

While the wait and surgery is over, the Faris family is trying to overcome their next obstacle: Transplants cost more than $500,000, and while insurance covers medical costs it doesn’t include travel, copays, emergency hospital bills or supplements.

The “COTA for Brooklyn F” team aims to raise $75,000 for Brooklyn’s family. They have $35,000 left to raise and have started a #35forBrooklyn campaign: $35 from 1,000 people.
