Tigers ink four JUCO players, one high school quarterback.
University of Memphis football coach Justin Fuente announced Wednesday the Tigers have signed four junior college players to National Letters of Intent on the first day of a period in which midyear JC transfers can ink with a university. Fuente also announced Wednesday that Sequoyah-Tahlequah High School quarterback Brayden Scott has signed a financial aid agreement.
Signing NLIs with the Tigers on Wednesday were Trinity Valley linebacker/defensive end Kewan Alfred and wide receiver Adrian Henderson, Riverside, Calif., Community College linebacker Ryan Coleman and Copiah-Lincoln wide receiver Joe Craig.
Alfred (6-3, 250) was a first-team selection on the All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference team following a sophomore season in which he finished the year with 41 total tackles to go along with three quarterback sacks (17 yards) and recovered two fumbles.
Coleman (6-3, 220) played his freshman season at Idaho State before transferring to Riverside Community College. This past season he had 53 total tackles which ranked among the Top 20 among California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) players.
Craig (5-11, 175) caught three passes for 18 yards during a redshirt freshman season at Clemson. This past year at Co-Lin he caught 63 passes for 777 yards and nine touchdowns and helped lead his junior college team to the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges state championship.
Henderson (6-0, 180) caught 17 passes for 153 yards during his sophomore season at Trinity Valley Community College. He caught 24 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns during his freshman season at Trinity Valley as the junior college posted an 8-3 record and made an appearance in the Citizens Bank Bowl in 2011.
Scott (6-3, 205) concluded his prep playing career throwing for over 7,000 yards and 90 touchdowns in four seasons at Sequoyah High School. He was named the District 3A-7 Most Valuable Player as well as named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-Star Team. Scott helped his high school to a 35-7 record and three district titles during his four-year career.
The Midyear JC Transfer period to sign an NLI continues through Jan. 15, 2013. National Signing Day for high school seniors is Feb. 6, 2013.
