A man is in critical condition after being shot by a Memphis police officer Wednesday night.
MPD said a mother who called 911 told police her son, who was described as mentally ill, was armed with a shotgun. When police arrived in the 3400 block of Dillard, the suspect pointed the shotgun at the officer.
The officer then fired shots at the suspect. The suspect was transported to Regional One in critical condition.
A police spokesperson originally told FOX13 the weapon used was a non-lethal SL6. We have since learned a police officer fired a weapon at the individual.
MPD is classifying the incident as an officer-involved shooting.
Good Morning Memphis will have the latest developments about the officer-involved shooting starting at 4:30 a.m.
