The Memphis softball team went a perfect 3-0 for the second straight year at the Blues City Classic, beating Southeast Missouri State 6-1 in their final game.
Starting pitcher Ellen Roberts shined again for the Tigers, tossing her fifth complete game of the season and allowing only one unearned run to go with six strikeouts and one walk.
Roberts got immediate help from her lineup, as the Tigers put up three runs in the top of the first inning, a lead that Southeast Missouri State never threatened throughout the rest of the game.
The middle of the lineup came through for the Tigers with No. 3 hitter Brittany Vaughn going 1-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, and No. 4 hitter Calli Irvin going 2-4 with two RBIs of her own.
The Tigers begin play in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic Tournament on February 28 against Texas State University.
