The Memphis women's basketball team used a late 10-0 run to come within striking distance, but could never get over that final hump losing to SMU 78-74 at FedEx Forum.
Memphis was paced by guard Ariel Hearn (20 points, 8 assists) and Asianna Fuqua-Bey (20 points, 6 rebounds) but trailed for most of the game. They had the most trouble on the defensive end, allowing SMU to shoot over 57% from the floor and 44% from the three-point line despite forcing 21 turnovers.
The Tigers dropped their sixth straight, falling to 11-16 on the season and 4-11 in the American Athletic Conference.
