Austin Nichols didn't just crack the "freshman" wall, he burst through it against Temple, putting up 17 points and 12 rebounds for his first career double-double and adding seven blocks.
"He was terrific," said coach Josh Pastner. "He had man rebounds. Tough, hard-nosed rebounds. He was a high-level guy."
"Austin is a great player. He's one of the most skilled athletes we've had since I've been here," added senior guard Chris Crawford. "He's just a phenomenal player."
At a time of the season when some freshman struggle with fatigue or pressure, Nichols had arguably his best game as a Tiger. The 12 rebounds and seven blocks were both career highs for Nichols, who played 36 minutes in the Tigers' 82-79 overtime win.
