Three people are facing charges after a traffic stop turned up 44 pounds of cocaine on I-40.
Officials said the cocaine was found in a plastic bag in the backseat of the truck. It has a street value of around $400,000.
The truck was stopped around 10:15 a.m. on September 25 in Fayette County, just east of Shelby County. The occupants told the officer they were traveling from Houston, Texas to Cleveland, Tenn.
33-year-old Tellerick Simon of Murfressboro, Tenn., 29-year-old Melvin Bullock of Duncanville, Texas, and 32-year-old Kayla Palmer of Knoxville were all arrested and face charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, deliver or sell.
They are being held in the Fayette County Jail on $2 million bond each.
Earlier last month, three women were arrested on drug charges when an officer stopped their vehicle for speeding on I-40, just east of the Shelby-Fayette County line and found 18 pounds of heroin and Fentenyl in the trunk.
