MEMPHIS, Tenn. - 2-year-old Laylah Washington has died after being shot in a road rage incident, according to her uncle. She was surrounded by family.
MPD also confirmed her death. She is the 91st homicide reported in Memphis this year.
The family told police Laylah's mother was picking up her two brothers from work when a car almost hit them in the parking lot by driving erratically. She yelled out of the window for them to slow down. That is when the car followed them, and someone inside opened fire.
Laylah’s two older brothers were also in the car and tried to protect her.
The toddler had been on life support after being shot in the head.
Memphis Police Department said they continue to search for clues in the 6700 block of Winchester and on Kirby near World Overcomers Church where the incident happened.
Since the shooting Sunday night, Laylah has been prayed for by thousands across Memphis. Her killer is still at large.
A GoFundMe account has been set up in memory of Laylah. The goal is to allow time for healing for Laylah’s mother and to show that the little girl was loved by the community.
