MEMPHIS, Tenn. - “Billy Turner was a free going person. You wouldn't think he would be the type to kill nobody.” That’s what a longtime friend of Billy Turner said about the accusation he killed NBA star Lorenzen Wright.
Barbara Golden is one of the closest people to Turner who is not a family member.
Barbara said they met in 2000, started working together at a Collierville dry cleaners, and became neighbors.

“He was just like a brother to me. We were just that close,” said Barbara. As recently as two months ago, Barbara bumped into Billy at a Collierville food store.
Today, she said she’s confused Billy is now sitting behind bars accused of heating up one of Memphis’ most high profile cold cases.
Barbara said he was a deacon at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Collierville both before and after Wright was found dead in July of 2010.
Barbara said, ‘No’ when asked if she saw any changes in his demeanor during that time.
The District Attorney’s Office would not comment on the investigation. Billy’s brother, Ricky Turner, told FOX13 he has not spoken to Billy since the arrest and he is in shock.
