IKEA gives update on Memphis store

By: Katie Rufener

With the turn of the calendar, comes the opening of the much anticipated IKEA store or so we thought.
FOX13 went browsing the website Wednesday and were surprised to see that after you sign up for the IKEA shopper program, you get an email message saying IKEA Memphis would open in the Winter of 2016. The store had promised to open in the Fall.
So, we drove out to I-40 to see what we could find out.
Construction is still underway, but there is no sign of merchandise in the building.
FOX13 also reached out to the head of IKEA USA expansion, Joseph Roth. Roth told us, "The below email appears to be an erroneous mock-up and one that accidentally was sent to recent enrollees [sic] in the IKEA family loyalty program."
Roth assured FOX13 the store will open in the Fall.
He went on to say they would correct the message as soon as possible, and they are thrilled with the progress, and IKEA Memphis remains on track.
We do not have an exact date for the grand opening.
The store is also still looking to hire 200 positions. Roth said there are plenty of job opportunities available.
