BROOKSFIELD, Miss. - A man has been charged with murder after a young mother was shot to death and her body was burned in the woods behind her house. That is according to the Clarion-Ledger.

The Clarion-Ledger reports 22-year-old Marcus Gardner has been charged with killing his girlfriend, 21-year-old Chelsea Pace of Starkville, and shooting her 5-year-old son multiple times.
The Noxubee County Coroner told the paper it appears Pace died from a single gunshot wound to the face. A formal autopsy is scheduled for this week.
Investigators believe Pace was killed inside her house off Highway 388 and her body was drug into the woods behind the house and set on fire.
The little boy was shot multiple times, but is recovering and listed in stable condition at an area hospital.
Gardner is not the child's father. The child's father is currently in the military and deployed.
The coroner told the Clarion-Ledger Pace and Gardner had not been together for very long and had recently moved from Starkville.
