MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Memphis woman says her “best friend” of 20 years stole her credit card, and went on a spending spree in Shelby County.

Ashley Boyd filed reports with the Memphis Police Department and the Millington Police Department, after her bank called her Monday about suspicious activity on her account.

The suspected thief charged about $300 worth of goods at nearly a dozen Shelby County locations, according Boyd’s bank account records.

Boyd said the friend, a woman, asked to stay at her house Sunday night. The friend, who FOX13 is not naming until police confirm she’s a suspect, has a history with alcohol abuse, Boyd said.

“My whole day is complete,” Boyd wrote in Facebook post Sunday afternoon. I got all of my kids home, not one missing, and my best friend.”

The next day she realized the woman had stolen her debit card. FOX13 is not identifying the suspected thief until police identify her or make an arrest.

“I let her spend the night here, and then she stole my stuff that night,” Boyd told FOX13 Wednesday.

Boyd said the woman snuck into a purse inside her home on the 4600 block of Sugar Creek Road in Memphis. Her bank records detail nearly a dozen fraudulent transactions.

Police records show at least five of the transactions were made in Millington.

The suspected thief went to a motel on the 7900 block of US Highway 51, two gas stations in Millington, and a liquor store on the 7800 block of US Highway 51.

“She didn’t care about me or my children,” Boyd said. “I have $17 left in my account from what she did.”

The mother of eight said she got a call from her bank about the unusual transactions, and then she called police.

“I don’t think there’s no such thing as friends anymore,” Boyd said.

MPD and Millington Police had not arrested the suspect as of Wednesday evening, but both confirmed to FOX13 they’re investigating the case of credit card fraud.
