MEMPHIS, Tenn. — United Way of the Mid-South’s free tax preparation program is officially underway.
This is the 17th year in a row United Way has offered this program.
It’s one sure fire way many low and middle income people can instantly position themselves to move toward financial self-sufficiency.
In 2019, the program brought in more than $14 million in refunds based on the 2018 tax year.
The full service program helps tax filers receive their full refund, often finding money tax payers didn’t even know they were owed.
It’s called earned income tax credit or EITC, an IRS poverty reduction plan.
“Based on the size of your family and your income they reduce your taxes up to about $6 thousand,” Phylis Fickling with United Way of the Mid-South told FOX13.
The United Way Free Tax Prep program is for individuals and families who earned less than $56 thousand last year.
