MFD rules fire at Hickory Hill beauty salon arson

A fire engulfed a Hickory Hill beauty salon early Friday morning.

Memphis Police responded to a burglary alarm in the 6100 block of Shelby Dr. at Bold & Beauty Boutique around 1:30 a.m. when officers arrived they found the building on fire.

The building sustained an estimated $23,000 in damages. The origin and cause of the fire was determined to be intentionally set in an interior office space. The fire remains under investigation.

FOX13 discovered earlier this year there had been at least 19 robberies or burglaries relating to hair weaves in the city of Memphis from February 2015 through February of 2016.

According to the owner, Terrica Mason, burglar got away with cash and possibly thousands of dollars of hair extensions.

"Did they take it or did it burn? We can't see nothing right now," Mason said.

As Mason figures out how she will rebuild, one question remains unanswered.

"Why, that's the only thing I can think of right now why."

The adjacent building sustained an estimated $3,000 of damages.

No injuries were reported.
