Conway first rose to fame in the early 1960s on ABC's "McHale's Navy," the Los Angeles Times reported. Between the 1960s and the 2000s, Conway appeared in dozens of television shows, including "30 Rock," "Mad About You" and "7th Heaven." He also provided the voice of Barnacle Boy in the animated series "SpongeBob SquarePants."
Conway was best known for his work on "The Carol Burnett Show," which aired on CBS from 1967-1978. The ensemble cast included Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner. Conway joined the cast as a regular in 1975 after being a frequent guest.
On "The Carol Burnett Show" he created a slew of memorable characters, including Mr. Tudball and the Old Man. His antics often made his castmates break character to laugh.
"My job on every show was to break everybody up," he told the Times in 2013.
His work on the show garnered him four Emmy awards. He won two more in his career for guest appearances on "Coach" and "30 Rock."
Conway also had a modest but steady movie career, appearing in such films as "The Apple Dumpling Gang."
He is survived by his second wife, Charlene Conway, and seven children, according to Variety.
Fans took to social media to remember the comedian, with one calling him “one of the funniest men on the planet.”

The amount of joy Tim Conway brought my family as a child was immeasurable. The man was pure comedy. Riotously funny. I finally got to see him work when he guest starred on The Larry Sanders show and he was all I dreamed he would be. As kind as he was funny. I’m very sad to hear that Tim Conway has passed. He brought me (and millions of others) so much laughter during my childhood. I never met him, but I like to think he had to be as kind and funny off stage as he was on. RIP and my condolences to his family, friends and fans. #riptimconway #timconway
