MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis mother was chased and killed in her car just down the road from her family, while her children were in the backseat.
Family identified the victim as Chaire Walker, a mother of eight.
Police said she was chased by someone she may have known and gunned down in the Parkway Village neighborhood.
The community is shaken about the incident that happened Wednesday evening.
One neighbor spoke to FOX13, but didn’t want to be on camera.
“I heard the gunshots, I heard the lady yell for help and I heard gunshots immediately. I knew something was going on. Police were here within minutes.”
She and many other neighbors said the area has had problems for several years.
“Unfortunately, we’re experiencing more and more things in this neighborhood that we never had in the past and this just made it worst when we heard the lady had numerous children. It’s upsetting.”
FOX13 dug into the Memphis Data Hub and found that in the past 2 weeks there have been more than 30 cases of violent crime in the area like burglaries and weapon offenses, including three homicides.
Police said they believe the latest incident stemmed from a domestic violence situation.
FOX13 spoke to Walker’s family who said they want to use this time to let police investigate.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.
