MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 36-year-old woman and her 14-year-old son are dead after they were both stabbed in Raleigh, according to police. Hours later, a man was arrested for their murders nearly 230 miles away by Arkansas State Police.
Family members identified the mother as Claudia Nunez, and the teen boy as Kevin Nunez.
According to Nunez’s family, she was a single mother of three.
Her other two children - both girls - are 16 years old and 9 years old, her family said.
The incident unfolded early Thursday morning in the 2800 block of N. Highland Road.
Memphis Police said a call about the stabbings came in just after 3:30 a.m.
Claudia was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 14-year-old was rushed to Le Bonheur, where he was pronounced dead, MPD said.
Around 12:25 p.m., Arkansas State Police said 42-year-old Jose Murillo Salgado of Bartlett, Tennessee was spotted driving a vehicle matching the description put out by Memphis Police.
Arkansas State Troopers said they swarmed Salgado as he exited the Highway near Hope, Arkansas, roughly 230 miles away from Memphis, and turned into a convenience store.
MPD said homicide investigators had put out warrants for Salgado for murder and especially aggravated burglary.
Police said the incident was domestic-related.
