10-year-old boy found after being dropped off at school, MPD says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — UPDATE AS OF 10/28/21 AT 12:15 P.M.

Smith has been located.

Shelby County Schools released the following statement following the incident:

Shelby County Schools is able to verify that the Westside Elementary student (Chase Smith) attended classes the entire day (October 27) and was dismissed as a walker at approximately 3:15 p.m. (per his dismissal arrangements on file). Westside Elementary administrators were not notified by guardians or family that the student was reported missing. However, based on recent reports, we are grateful to learn that he has been safely located.


Memphis police are searching for a young boy who may be in danger.

Chase Smith, 10, was last seen late Wednesday in the 3300 block of Dawn Drive.

Chase was last seen being dropped off at school around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, MPD said.

He is 4′11,” 95 lbs., and was last seen wearing a gray Under Armour shirt with a neon green ‘X’ on the front. He had on gray pants and orange and white Nike shoes.
