MEMPHIS, Tenn. — More than a dozen MPD officers have tested positive for the coronavirus, officials say.
A spokesperson for the Memphis Police Department sent FOX13 the information around 1:30 p.m Wednesday.
FOX13 is working to learn more about the officers and their duties within the department.
MPD confirmed 13 commissioned officers and three civilian employees are positive.
Officials originally said it was 15 MPD officers, but that number has since dropped. The civilian employees were added in the most recent update.
This number comes on the heel of an announcement from the health department that nearly 900 people tested positive for the virus in Shelby County.
Shelby County health officials are also reporting 21 deaths due to the coronavirus.
The impact of the novel coronavirus is being felt all across the Mid-South where new cases are being announced every day and new steps are being taken to help limit the spread. Keep checking back for the latest COVID-19 updates throughout the day.
