13 things to do this weekend across the Mid-South

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It is another weekend in the Mid-South and FOX13 compiled a list of things to do for you.


Elvis’ Birthday Celebration

All weekend long, Elvis Presley’s Graceland will celebrate Elvis’ birthday.

Thursday through Monday, events include the annual Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony on Jan. 8, Elvis Birthday Bash and Evening Tour and private tours of Graceland Mansion with Priscilla Presley, plus a Birthday Celebration Concert featuring Terry Mike Jeffrey and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, fan-favorite concert Elvis: Live in concert.

Refreshingly Catchy

Refreshing shows will host a Refreshingly Catchy for the fourth year in a row.

The shows will be at Growlers on Poplar Ave. with a full list of performers that can be found on their Facebook page.

When We Get Good Again

TheatreWorks! presents When We Get Good Again, takes a poor college woman selling term papers to have college tuition.

The play runs from Jan. 10 to Jan 26.

A Day of Tasters

The Metal Museum presents a day of tasters for those wondering what it is like to do metalworking from 8:30 p.m. to 4:40 p.m.

There will be 90-minute session at $50 per session for ages 15 and up.

The workshops include blacksmithing, MIG welding, casting and fold forming.

Fold Forming in Silver

Memphis Botanic Garden presents Fold Forming in Silver with Bandy Boyd from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Cherry Rd.

Fold forming takes advantage of the inherent qualities of metal and simple tools to create a myriad of organic and precise shapes. In this workshop, students will create fold formed pieces (a pendant and pair of earrings) from sterling silver.

Junior Artisans: Copper Cars

Another fun event at the Metal Museum, but this time it’s for the children from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The children will learn to make a kinetic car out of copper. They will create a pattern out of copper and texture the surface.

For ages 7 to 10 and it is $15.

Comma Comedians and Memphis Made Brewing Co. presents Drafts and Laughs starting at 7:30 p.m. on Cooper St.

Folk All Y’all: An Evening with Mia Borders

The Green Room at Crosstown Arts on Concourse Ave. presents an evening with Mia Borders at 7:30 p.m.

Borders has performed at renowned venues as The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Essence Festival, and The Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, and shared bills with B.B. King, Corinne Bailey Rae, Lee Fields and Marc Broussard.

Memphis Botanic Garden presents Silly Succulent Pots from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Cherry Rd.

You will learn the basics of pinch pot construction and how to add eyes, teeth, horns, hair, legs or whatever else you want.

Then, you will get to paint your critter any colors you’d like.

Memphis Rox Climbing + Community begins their Mental Health Awareness Week on Mclemore Ave.
