2 high schools credited for 54% of local district COVID-19 numbers

Total US coronavirus cases top 7.5M

DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — Two high schools were credited for 54% of DeSoto County Schools' COVID-19 numbers.

According to DeSoto County School COVID-19 data, for the week of Oct. 5-9, Southaven and DeSoto Central High Schools had football-related outbreaks.

Both schools suspended all football-related activities for 14 days.

At DeSoto Central, there were 16 confirmed new cases. The school has 107 students in quarantine.

Southaven has nine new confirmed cases and 56 students in quarantine.

The district said 27 students and staff tested positive last week.
