MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department (MPD) is investigating a shooting that left multiple people shot in Raleigh.
Officers were on a traffic stop near the 5700 block of Raleigh LaGrange Road when they heard multiple shots fired and observed a white SUV that fled north on Sycamore View Road around midnight, a release said.
Officers located a crime scene but no victims.
Officers began to check the apartments north of Raleigh LaGrange on Sycamore View and located a white Infiniti QX50 inside the Tanglewood Apartment complex.
According to police, the car had a part of a gas pump hanging from the gas tank and bullet holes. The car was unoccupied and reported stolen out of Collierville.
Less than an hour later, officers responded at about 12:45 a.m. to the 3900 block of New Covington Pike to Methodist North Hospital.
Methodist originally provided the following statement to FOX13.
Early this morning, a shooting occurred near Methodist North Hospital. No hospital employees were harmed. Six patients were treated and transported to Regional One and Le Bonheur hospitals. We appreciate the swift action from our employees to guide patients away from the ED waiting area so our security team and Memphis Police Department could respond quickly. We are working with local law enforcement who are continuing to investigate. The hospital is not on lockdown at this time.
According to MPD, two of the victims were taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital with one still listed in non-critical condition and one released.
Four victims were taken to Regional One, police said. Three of the four are still in the hospital and the other was released.
During this investigation, investigators with the Gun Crimes Unit have determined that Reginald Felix (19), a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old were in the stolen Infiniti SUV when they were shot at in the 5700 block of Raleigh LaGrange Road.
The fourth victim was struck at this location and taken by a private car to Methodist North.
According to police, a 14-year-old and a 25-year-old took the three injured in the stolen Infiniti SUV from the Tanglewood Apartments to Methodist North.
While on the way to the hospital, they were shot by unknown suspects occupying a dark-colored vehicle, a release said.
The five abandoned the disabled car and ran to the hospital.
Around 4 p.m., Methodist sent FOX13 an updated statement.
Early this morning, six injured young people were treated at Methodist North Hospital and transferred to Regional One and Le Bonheur after a shooting in the Raleigh community of Memphis. This incident did not occur on or near our hospital campus. Our medical staff worked quickly to stabilize the injured and get them the care they needed. We appreciate the swift action from our staff to guide patients away from the ED waiting area so our security team and Memphis Police Department could respond quickly. Felix has been released from the hospital and charged with Theft of Property $10,000 - $60,000.
A 17-year-old boy is still being treated at Regional One, is in custody and will be charged with Theft of Property $10,000 -$60,000, police said.
A 16-year-old boy was released from Le Bonheur and was transported to Juvenile Court charged with Theft of Property $10,000 - $60,000.
Police said a 14-year-old boy remains non-critical at Le Bonheur.
Two 25-year-old males remain critical but stable at Regional One.
It is unknown now if the suspects and victims are known to each other.
