Amazon expanding operations with new facilities in Mississippi, Memphis; will create hundreds of jobs

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Amazon is expanding operations in the Mid-South.

The company is opening a fulfillment center in Byhalia, Miss. and a delivery station in Memphis, Tenn., according to a release from Amazon.

The facilities will create hundreds of jobs in the area, with a starting wage of $15 per hour.

Employees at the Byhalia facility will pick, pack and ship larger items such as mattresses, kayaks, grills and more.

According to the release, the company offers full-time employees comprehensive benefits including medical, vision and dental insurance.

The company also offers up to 20 weeks of maternal and paternal paid leave and other benefits.

Last year Amazon hired over 1,500 employees in Mississippi during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic., the release said.

“Marshall County is excited to partner with Amazon as they move forward with their second facility in our county,” said George Zinn III, President, Marshall County Board of Supervisors. “Amazon has provided hundreds of career opportunities to our region, and we support their continued growth and job creation. We look forward to continuing to work with Amazon to foster long term investment and positive economic growth in our community.”

The delivery station in Memphis, located on Hawkins Mill Road, will power Amazon’s last-mile delivery capabilities to speed up deliveries for customers in the area.

There are currently four Amazon delivery stations in Tennessee.
