OXFORD, MS. — Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford declared an internal disaster status Wednesday.
This means they’re preparing for the increasing amount of critical care patients.
Doctors said they’re doing this is a precautionary measure based on what they’re seeing right now.
They’re calling this Code D.
They just enacted their command center. This is their way of being proactive and preparing for what’s ahead.
“The other things we can do is we can adjust the beds that we have in the hospital,” said Paul Levy, Chief Medical officer at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford. “We can use some areas that we would normally do procedures in. We can move some beds around and make them ICU level care beds.”
Levy told FOX13 Code D also helps staff re-adjust their resources in the hospital and decrease the amount of mutation.
Tuesday, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves announced he extended more than 800 nurses and other health care workers who started deploying to 50 hospitals across the state in an effort to address staffing shortages.
