Despite online rumors, MLGW says it is not disconnecting water

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — MLGW customers are being asked to conserve water through Monday, and a boil water advisory is in effect for customers.

According to MLGW, recent water main breaks and freezing temperatures that could allow harmful bacteria are the reason behind the advisory.

The boil water advisory includes all MLGW customers in Shelby County.

MLGW will alert customers when the water is safe to drink and use without boiling.

MLGW said it is experiencing reduced pressure across the water distribution system as well as reduced reservoir levels at several pumping stations.

Ahead of MLGW’s announcement, the Town of Collierville and City of Germantown tweeted that thier water customers are not included in this order since they have their own independent water system. The City of Bartlett posted as well.

The City of Millington released a statement saying some residents are impacted by MLGW’s boil water alert.

The following streets inside Millington city limits are served by MLGW. Residents who live on these streets should follow the Precautionary Boil Water Advisory. Water service for all other streets inside Millington city limits are served by the City of Millington Water Department and are not affected by the advisory.
