Both men killed in MS mass shooting identified

CRENSHAW, Miss. — Two people are dead and three others were hurt after gunfire erupted in a small town in North Mississippi Sunday night, according to law enforcement.

Authorities said that the shooting happened on Jones St. in Crenshaw, Mississippi, about an hour from Memphis. Five people in total were injured.

Family confirmed to FOX13′s Jeremy Pierre Derrick Small Jr. is one of the victims who died. His father said he came to the area to visit some friends.

Shortly after police released the name of the other victims as Deshun Anderson, 19.

They both died at the crime scene.

Investigators recovered between 60 to 100 rounds were fired from multiple guns. The shooting happened on the Quitman County side of Crenshaw, a town that tallied a population of just 829 people in the 2020 census.

The shooting is still under investigation and all the suspects remain at large. If you have any information related, contact Quitman County Sheriffs or the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

There are only about 1,000 people who live in this small town.

This had to hit people hard.

People we spoke to said it’s quiet. Nothing like this ever goes on here.

Crime scene tape was still wrapped around the light poles here at an apartment complex in Crenshaw Mississippi.

One neighbor we talked to didn’t want his face shown. He doesn’t understand why the two men who died were killed. It made no sense.

”You know those two I can’t see what kind of beef they were full of laughter and full of life,” Bobby Parks said.

In the 60 to 100 shots that were fired multiple bullets hit his cousin killing him.

”He was a young guy doing a lot for the community and he got murdered last night and doing a lot for himself I just think it was stupidity for it to happen like that it hurt deep but God got an angel the day it happened,” he said.

People who live here don’t understand it.

This kind of thing doesn’t happen in Crenshaw.

“Nothing really happens here much but as to why I couldn’t say why,” said a man who lives near the shooting said.

”All I know is its stupidity and it comes everywhere ain’t no explanation for it. All I know is the family is hurt,” Parks said.
