HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. — What was supposed to be a fun weekend visit in Helena-West Helena with relatives ended in a tragedy for an Olive Branch family and with a mother planning her son’s funeral.
8-year-old Keishun Hollis' mother came to visit her family this weekend with her three sons.
“I got a phone call saying my child had been shot," Lena Hollis told FOX13.
Hollis thought it had to be a mistake because her son Keishun was spending time with his aunt.
“When I got here, I just lost it. I can’t believe this happened.”
Police said shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday night, Keishun’s aunt got into a fight with her boyfriend Hector Lopez on second street at her apartment.
As Keishun’s aunt tried to drive away, police said Lopez fired several shots at the car, hitting and killing Keishun.
“I think he deserves the death penalty," said Keishun’s mother. "He took my child away from me. He don’t deserve to just go to jail.”
Police said Lopez took off, but his mother turned him into the authorities early Sunday morning.
Lena Hollis doesn’t want her son to be another statistic. She wants people to know who Keishun was.
“Keishun was very sweet," she said. "He was nice to everybody. He wanted to help everybody. He wanted everyone to be kind to one another.”
Hector Lopez has been charged with capital murder, domestic battery in the second degree and aggravated assault. He is being held without bond and is due in court on Nov. 9, according to a release.
