MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Months after a pregnant woman was shot to death in Memphis, her family moves one step closer to closure after the Memphis Police Department arrested her boyfriend for her murder.
A woman was shot to death near a home on Ford Rd. around 6 a.m. on Dec. 4, according to the Memphis Police Department.
She was 26-year-old Ashanti Smith, her family told FOX13. Her family also said that she was 5 months pregnant with a baby boy when she was killed.
From the day it happened, her family believed the person responsible for taking Ashanti’s life was her boyfriend, 26-year-old Nakia Jackson.
Almost two months later, Memphis Police arrested Jackson and charged him with the crime.
Along with a first-degree murder charge for killing Ashanti Smith, Jackson was also given a first-degree murder charge for the murder of the unborn baby, according to police.
When she was murdered, Ashanti Smith left behind two children, ages two and three, according to her family.
