Bride arrested for biting cop on her wedding day, police say

Memphis, Tenn. — A Tennessee woman spent her wedding night in jail after getting drunk, getting into a fight and then biting a police officer, according to the Memphis Police Department.

MPD said between 20 and 30 people were all drunk and fighting during a wedding reception Friday night at Avon Acres on Summer Ave.

Police started breaking up the fights, one of which included the bride, Miya Pugh, according to a police affidavit.

Police said that, after the bride was detained, Pugh began yelling and ran past cop cars towards part of the crowd that had been fighting.

A Memphis Police officer stopped Pugh and tried to talk to her as she slurred her words, telling police that she had been drinking because it was her wedding night, according to an affidavit.

Police report that Pugh then flipped a switch, going from docile to hostile and attempting to fight the officer who had detained her. Officers then went to arrest Pugh when she began resisting and bit the cop on the right shoulder, police reported in an affidavit.

Pugh is charged with aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, public intoxication and resisting official detention.
