Authorities said that at least one juvenile victim is involved in this case.

The case originated out of Southaven. The police chief said he could not speak about it because it involved children.

In a news release, investigators said it all started with an allegation of sexual assault of a juvenile on August 5, 2020, which led to a grand jury indictment this month.

FOX13 has reached out to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen in Brighton for comment and more information. They are referring all calls to the town attorney.

We reached out to Brighton’s mayor’s office, but the city referred us to their attorney who also isn’t talking.

However, Boone’s neighbor Trena Buckner is talking.

“He needs to be put under the jail. Too many people are getting away with this crap just because they are alderman or presidents of the homeowners association and that’s what’s wrong with the world today,” Buckner said.

Boone is a teacher at White Station High School in Shelby County but was on leave at the time of his arrest.

He was transferred to the Desoto County Jail to be booked in Thursday afternoon.

“Too many people are getting away with it and they need to do something about it instead of sweeping it under the rug,” Buckner said.

A Shelby County Schools spokesperson confirmed that Boone is an SCS teacher and has been on leave for some time. SCS released the following statement:

“David Boone has been on leave since October 19, 2020. He remains on unpaid administrative leave pending the disposition of an investigation managed by an external agency. Regarding any current charges or indictments, SCS defers to Desoto County or Tipton County law enforcement.”

The Southaven Police Department released the following statement about Boone’s arrest:

On August 5, 2020, Southaven Police took a report regarding a sexual assault of a juvenile. Southaven Detectives opened an investigation once they received the report and David Boone was developed as the suspect. The case was completed and turned over to the District Attorney’s Office to be presented to the Grand Jury. The case was true billed by the Grand Jury in June of 2021 and an indictment was later issued for David Boone.

The Southaven Police Department does not have an arrest/booking report or mugshot as he was taken into custody in Tipton County and will later be extradited to DeSoto County.
