Bullets fly outside Target in Olive Branch, police say

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — Gunfire erupted outside of a Target store in Olive Branch Friday afternoon, according to the Olive Branch Police Department.

Police said bullets started flying outside of the store on Goodman Rd. around 3:38 p.m.

According to Olive Branch Police, no one was reported to be hurt. But, when FOX13 crews arrived at the scene, the glass of the store could be seen busted out in front of the store.

Customers who spoke to FOX13 said they were instructed to run back toward the fitting rooms as they heard the gunshots.

Police said that the shots fired were an isolated incident, but authorities have not released any information about the shooter or shooters.

Brian Harper-Tibaldo, a spokesperson for Target, said that he is grateful that no one was injured and for the quick response of the Olive Branch Police Department.

“Earlier today, shots were fired in the parking lot of our Olive Branch store, causing minor damage to the exterior of the building,” Harper-Tibaldo said in a statement sent to FOX13. “Our team immediately called 911 and secured the store, and we’re grateful that no one was injured. We appreciate the fast response of the Olive Branch Police Department and will continue to provide them with what’s needed for their investigation. At this time, we would refer additional questions to law enforcement.”

It’s also still unclear what led to the gunshots.
