Children safe after being abducted in stolen car, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two children are back with their family after someone stole the car they were inside, according to police.

The car was stolen just before 2 a.m. Monday morning from a gas station on Getwell Road.

The father pulled up to the gas pump and left the car running and the doors unlocked when he went inside, according to police.

While he was inside, someone hopped into the car and drove away with the victim’s two children inside.

Roughly 12 minutes later, police found the stolen car at the intersection of Meda Street and East Parkway South. Both children were still inside. The suspect ran out of the car and fled from the intersection.

The owner of the car was given a citation.
