Court records reveal new details on shooting death of pregnant woman

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man at the center of a deadly shooting was arrested just one day after being added to the TBI’s Most Wanted list, officials said.

Joshua Dotson is accused of shooting into a home while his pregnant girlfriend, Jamesha Covson, was inside it.

On June 12, Dotson and Covson got into an argument about a Facebook post and the pregnancy, police said.

Dotson fired a shot through the door after the victim closed it on him, court records said.

The suspect then forced his way into the house and they continued arguing, but he eventually left, police said.

Hours later, officers received a call regarding a shooting with one shot being fired into the home. After police arrived, the victim was found in the house with several gunshot wounds. She was rushed to the hospital but later died. Her unborn child did not make it.

TBI added him to their most wanted list less than a week after the shooting, and he was found the following day.

Dotson was captured at an apartment at the 2300 block of Seifried in Nashville on June 18. The TBI said he was taken into custody without incident.

His arrest was a collaboration between the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force Memphis Office, the Memphis Police Department Homicide Squad, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Tennessee Highway Police SWAT team, the Nashville Metropolitan Police and the Nashville U.S. Marshals Office.

He is charged with two counts of First-Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm during Dangerous Felony, Criminal Attempt Felony To Wit First Degree Murder.
