COVID-19 boosters available for children ages 5-11, Shelby County Health Department says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Booster doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines will be available to children aged 5-11 years old at no cost starting Friday, May 27, the Shelby County Health Department announced.

The boosters are available for kids who have already received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and received the second dose of their primary series five or more months ago.

Booster doses provide an added layer of protection against COVID-19, which is particularly beneficial for people with impaired immune responses and underlying conditions that put them at risk for severe illness from a COVID-19 infection.

“We encourage everyone to stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations,” said Health Director Dr. Michelle Taylor. “As we go into the summer months with vacation travel and summer camp, a booster may give children added protection.”

The Health Department is offering COVID-19 vaccinations at the following locations:

  • 814 Jefferson Avenue, Suite 207
  • 1826 Sycamore View Road

Both locations are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Health Department will be closed on May 30, 2022, in observance of Memorial Day.

In addition to the Health Department’s Immunization Clinic, COVID-19 vaccinations are also free and widely available at pharmacies and other vaccination sites all over Shelby County.
