UPDATE: Driver not shot before fiery crash involving MATA bus

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 2-month-old baby and a man are recovering after a fiery crash involving a MATA bus and a black Dodge Charger Thursday morning.

Police originally said the crash happened after the driver of the Charger was shot, but the investigation revealed that no one was shot.

Both the bus and the car caught fire during the accident.

Memphis Police officers responded to the crash on Shelby Drive near Faronia Road around 6:30 a.m.

Westbound lanes on Shelby Drive in front of Southland Mall were blocked for hours.

The driver was rushed to Baptist East in critical condition, officials with the Memphis Fire Department said.

Another man and an infant were also inside the car at the time of the crash.

According to family members, the baby is expected to be okay.
