Dreadlock lands man behind bars after shooting, robbery at auto parts store

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A dreadlock landed a man behind bars after he allegedly shot a man and robbed a Memphis auto parts store.

The incident happened Dec. 2, 2018 around 7 a.m.

Memphis police said two men armed with guns entered an O’Reilly’s Auto Parts store in the 3300 block of Summer Avenue.

According to an affidavit, one of the men held a victim at gunpoint and demanded money from the register.

When the victim tried to defend himself, he was shot once in the chest.

During the altercation, the victim ripped one of the suspect’s dreadlocks from his scalp, police said.

The suspects then took an undetermined amount of money and fled.

CSI collected evidence from the scene, including the suspect’s dreadlock.

It was sent to the FBI for DNA analysis and came back with a match for Jamarious Jones, 32, records show.

In Oct. 2020, police also received a tip identifying Jones as the gunman in the robbery.

Jones is charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder and Especially Aggravated Robbery.
