Driver who hit pedestrian on Germantown Parkway arrested for DUI, police say

MEMPHIS,Tenn. — A man is dead and MPD arrested the suspected drunk driver who hit him.

Late Friday night a pedestrian was hit and killed at Germantown Parkway, according to officials.

A witness told officers they saw Stephen D. Porter, 37, weaving in and out of traffic in his Chevy Malibu just before the accident.

According to an affidavit, Jeremiah Andrew Dean was hit and killed by Porter while attempting to cross Germantown Parkway from east to west and “not in a designated crosswalk.”

The Memphis Fire Department transported Porter to the hospital for minor injuries from the crash.

Porter told police he had just left a friend’s house where he “did a couple of shots of cognac.”

Officers said his eyes were bloodshot red and had a slurred speech, so they obtained a search warrant to take a blood sample to determine his alcohol level.

Porter’s bond was is at $25,000, jail records show.
