SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — Voters headed to the polls Tuesday for Election Day across Shelby County.
The votes determined who will represent Democrats or Republicans in the August 4 election.
One race that got a lot of attention was who will be the Democratic opponent running against Amy Weirich for the Shelby County District Attorney spot.
Three people were running against Weirich for the DA’s office: Linda Harris, Steve Mulroy, and Janika White.
With more than 45% of primary votes, Mulroy will face Weirich.
The August election will determine who will be the Shelby County’s DA for the next eight years.
Incumbent Mayor Lee Harris, a Democrat, will face Republican candidate Worth Morgan in August.
Voting precincts across the county were expected to be busy.
According to the Shelby County Election Commission, more than 39,000 people voted during early voting.
