Fire damages home on Mud Island, officials say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police and fire officials are investigating a fire that broke out at a home on Mud Island.

The fire happened around midnight Thursday morning in the 1000 block of Island Place East, according to the Memphis Police Department (MFD).

Firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the two-story home.

No civilians or firefighters were injured in the blaze, MFD said.

The fire was brought under control by 12:25 a.m.

The home did have a working smoke alarm.

Total estimated damage is $115,000, MFD said.

The fire was an incendiary blaze that began on a second floor balcony.
