Firefighter injured, vehicles damaged after crowd shoots fireworks at emergency personnel

JACKSON, Tenn. — One firefighter was injured and several city vehicles were damaged when a group of people shot fireworks at emergency personnel in Jackson, Tenn. early Sunday morning.

According to a release from the City of Jackson, the incident happened just after 1 a.m. on Carver Ave. near Lincoln Courts Apartments.

The Jackson Fire Department was called to a dumpster fire in the area. When firefighters and Jackson Police arrived, they said a group of about 40 people started firing “a significant amount of small and large mortar fireworks at the emergency personnel from both Departments.”

The incident is being investigated as an assault on a public servant official.

According to the release, “Incidents such as this are very unique to our organization.” Jackson Fire Department Operations Chief Don Friddle said,” We will not and cannot tolerate this type of behavior toward those that give so much to protect our community.”
