MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Whataburger fans, get ready!
The burger chain announced five locations are opening in the Memphis area, beginning in 2022.
The restaurants are planned in the following locations, according to a release from the company:
- Goodman & Getwell, Southaven, MS – early 2022
- Goodman & Airways, Southaven, MS – mid-2022
- SWQ Stage Rd & N Germantown Pkwy Memphis, TN – mid-2022
- Germantown Pkwy & Macon Rd., Cordova, TN – late 2022
- NWQ W Poplar Ave & Market Blvd. Collierville, TN – early 2023
Conner Hollingsworth works right beside the vacant building in Collierville set to become a Whataburger in 2023.
“McDonalds, Chick-fil-A even, they get so old after a while. So, to have something new that’s not really in this area is something to look forward to,” said Hollingsworth.
The Collierville location is just one of five Whataburger’s coming to the Mid-South over the next couple of years.
“Some of our chamber partners decided this was more of a welcome back party as opposed to a welcome to Memphis party,” said Amity Schuyler, Memphis Chamber of Commerce.
Whataburger is also hiring for several positions ahead of the locations’ opening, according to the release.
The company is hiring restaurant managers and operating partners.
“Any institution that’s going to come to town Provide jobs, but also deeply invest in the community with their culture and brand. We welcome with open arms,” Schuyler said.
Hiring for team leaders and team members will begin in the fall, the release said.
The company plans to hire over 530 local employees this year, and a total of 930 by the end of 2022.
Official opening dates for the Memphis-area restaurants have not been announced.
