Former NBA player holds 10th annual days of service in West Memphis

Memphis, Tenn. — Former NBA player Sonny Weems is back in his hometown of West Memphis.

He’s hosting his 10th annual Days of Community Service.

Weems used his newly released book to promote reading in disadvantaged communities Tuesday.

Weems, a three-time champion who now plays professional basketball in China, is using his book to encourage kids to read one book a week.

“You can’t get through life if you can’t read or write, that’s why we are here for Weems World: to teach kids to instill in kids school is very important,” he said.
