Grizzlies say Ja Morant suffered a left knee sprain during Friday night’s game

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Grizzlies star Ja Morant left Friday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks and left Memphis fans holding their breath.

The scary moments unfolded with about 3:30 left in the first quarter when the former Rookie of the Year was dribbling on the offensive end of the court.

Morant, fresh off of his first-ever Nike’s commercial, limped along the baseline to the Memphis bench before being helped to the locker room.

The injury appeared to be a non-contact injury.

Morant returned to the Grizzlies’ bench in the second half in street clothes, apparently done for the night.

The Grizzlies star tweeted out an ominous statement while he waited to hear news on the seriousness of his injury.

The Grizzlies released a statement late Friday after the game saying:

The Memphis Grizzlies provided the following medical update on Grizzlies guard Ja Morant:

Ja Morant exited during the first quarter of Friday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks. Preliminary imaging revealed a left knee sprain. Further updates will be provided as appropriate.
